Tips and Tricks for Diving in Komodo Island

These days, with the crazy life of mega city, a lot of people seek for an escape to relieve the excessive stress that they experience every day. One of a way to do that is by having a vacation to foreign places. Komodo Island becomes one of the most visited places for vacation in Indonesia. It is due to the popularity of komodo dragons that is live in the island. Other than the komodo dragons, Komodo Island is also famous for its marine life. Diving Komodo Island is a popular activity among tourists, both domestic and international. The popularity is reasonable. This island offers a great variety of fishes, unspoiled and magnificent coral reefs, and unique fishes that will create an unforgettable memory of your vacation. If you are lucky, you can even spots a group of Manta Rays, Grey Sharks, or even Hammerhead sharks.

Doing scuba diving in the Komodo Island generally can be done all the years, but for best time to dive in Komodo Island, it is listed below according to Wisata Pulau Kalimantan:

·  General diving is usually around March to October. During rainy seasons, not all diving clubs are willing to go to the sea, but there are some who can provide you with your needs.

·  As for the visibility, the best time is during November to January. Other than those time, the sea may be slightly blurry, but it is still pretty clear nonetheless.

·  The best time to spot Manta Rays is at rainy seasons while the sharks can be seen almost every time all the years.

Komodo diving currents are generally pretty strong regardless of the season, so, this activity is clearly not suitable for beginners. You have to be certified in scuba diving to be able to dive in Komodo Island. Some of diving clubs in Bali offers scuba diving certification. You can get your certification there, but of course, you have to pay a good amount of fortune. There are some calmer place to dive, however, for those who are not experienced enough, but you will probably miss the big fishes show that only exist in the place where the currents are strong. Trust your guide when they suddenly cancel your trip because at some places, the currents can reach up to 8 knots, which is very dangerous.

The best diving center at Labuan Bajo are Wicked Center, Reefseekers, Orca Dive Club, and Dive Komodo. The fishes and corals that you can spot during your diving are Manta rays, Blacktip Sharks, rare nudibranchs, Dogtooth Tuna, Hammerhead Sharks, frog fish, Giant trevally, Whitetip Sharks, Barracuda, Grey Sharks, and pygmy sea horse. If you are interested in macro diving, the most wonderful place to visit is Cannibal Rock that is situated at the south part of marine reserve. It is important to prepare an insurance in scuba diving before you plan any dive trip because accidents during diving does happen from time to time. Once you are ready, you can start to plan your scuba vacation. Do not forget to do some research regarding your destination before planning.
